Nembang elected to chair CA

CPN-UML leader Subas Chandra Nembang was today declared elected unopposed as chairman of the Constituent Assembly. Acting CA chairman Kul Bahadur Gurung announced that Nembang was elected unopposed to the post, as he was the sole candidate to file nomination for the post.
President Dr Ram Baran Yadav will administer the oath of office and secrecy to Nembang on Sunday morning at Shital Niwas.
After being declared elected to the post, Nembang said his unanimous election gave a positive
message that the parties could move ahead together to draft a new constitution.
“I will play an active and impartial role in the CA to make it a place to forge consensus,” Nembang said, adding that the CA, which also acts as a legislative body, would also make the government accountable to the people. He said the parties had no other option but to reach a consensus to draft a new constitution.
Bishnu Poudel, deputy leader of UML parliamentary party, who had proposed Nembang’s election, said, “With Nembang elected unopposed, it appears that parties are ready to work on consensus basis even though they were divided in the presidential race.”
NC leader Bimalendra Nidhi said Nembang was the right person for the job. He said Nembang’s experience as the Speaker of interim parliament would be highly useful to draft a new Statute.
Gurung congratulated Nembang and lauded him as highly qualified and efficient person who can play a balanced role in the House.
