SOLUKHUMBU: A 92-year old Bhim Bahadur Basnet of Solukhumbu has toiled for the maintenance of a five-kilometre trail road from the amount he received as social security allowance.
Elderly Basnet had initiated the repair and clean-up of the road with a spade. He spent his allowance for the job after his demand for budget from village council was disapproved.
Basnet has mobilised youths of Chaulakharka. More than 30 people joined their hands to make the campaign successful, shared Man Bahadur Basnet, a local.
Senior citizen Basnet shared, “Now the allowance has doubled starting this year. I will spend the annual allowance to maintain rural roads in my village”.
He expressed his belief that the making of road in village would help ease his ‘road to heaven’.
